aron neubert cultural worker +
estate representative of jürgen baldiga

aron neubert is a cultural worker based in berlin. since the early 1990s, he has been engaged with photography, archives, + bringing queer cultural history into public view.

neubert was a close friend of the artist + photographer jürgen baldiga (1959–1993) + today manages his estate. his photographic portrait series warmth, which only fire can give, created during the final 27 months of baldiga’s life, was published as a book in 1995 + has been + continues to be exhibited internationally, including at mucem in marseille, the leopold museum in vienna, ngbk + schwules museum in berlin, + the national gallery prague.

between 1999 + 2007, neubert worked intermittently in los angeles on the archival organization of photographer walter kehr’s work + its subsequent publication in walter kehr: photographs 1995–2005.

as a contemporary witness + protagonist, neubert has appeared in documentary films on the queer history of west berlin, including jochen hick’s my wonderful west berlin + jasco viefhues’ rescue the fire. he was also closely involved in the development of the documentary baldiga – unlocked heart, drawing on his long-standing engagement with baldiga’s work + estate.

today, neubert’s work focuses on researching, contextualizing, + making jürgen baldiga’s extensive artistic + written estate publicly accessible. he collaborates with museums, archives, exhibition spaces, researchers, + filmmakers. the website on jürgen baldiga, conceived + designed by neubert, brings together photographs, diaries, + other archival materials, providing public access to them + contributing to the international visibility of baldiga’s work.

neubert approaches the archive not simply as a site of preservation, but as a living point of departure for engaging with art, memory, + queer history.
